The Layers of A Soul

Years ago, I became very curious about what past lives I have had and what lessons my soul had learned in them. Although I didn't have a real need to find out, I went to a professional to do a past life regression. After two visits, I had gained knowledge of what I was told had been one of my reincarnations in the 19th century as a German woman. What I saw I will keep private but what I can say is that I was astounded by the intensity of the emotions I felt as I relived that moment in time. I was being asked to remove myself from the situation at hand in order to watch the whole thing as a third person, someone watching from above. But I was caught up in an emotional roller-coaster. I was unable to follow directions at that point. In my vision, I saw my reflection in the mirror as I cried. The face and body of this woman was completely different than mine, although it felt like me. I remember mesmerizing at the size of my hands during that life compared to mine now. They were huge!

During my regression, I was able to recall my name, the date, the names of all my children. etc. The doctor who walked me through the process (who was practicing at Dr. Bryan Weiss center in Miami at the time) told me that she had been expecting me. There were clues that hinted to an encounter with the reincarnation of this woman I was supposed to have been. She was pleased with our progress and asked me to come back the following week. I never did. I found the whole experience extremely disturbing and I knew that there was no point in trying to find out who I was. After all, I only had curiousity and not any unfounded fears or insecurities to overcome. After that, my past lives began to unfold through dreams and meditation without any professional guidance.

Because the life of this German woman had, to a small degree, a historical significance, I was able to find the sources to validate the information I had given the doctor during my regression. Everything had been accurate. However, the there was another issue. Since I had been able to develop my psychic abilities since childhood, there was always the possibility that I had received this information from the Spirit of this woman instead. In fact, the process of regression is basically a technique of relaxation where the mind an body unwind until the person becomes an empty canvas where the imagery begins to take form. This is exactly the same technique used to communicate with spirits.

My doubts were confirmed the night I was introduced to another psychic who is renowned for her accuracy. Without any knowledge of my previous regression, she took a glance at me and told me that she could see the spirit of a woman who lived in the eighteen hundreds in Germany. She proceeded to give me details of her life and even her full name. My sister, who was the only person in the room who knew about this, looked at me in disbelief. I am certain that this psychic had no idea about who this woman was and what she represented. After all, we were talking about a spirit whose achievements had had a small significance compared to other personalities in her career. We were not talking about the spirit of Cleopatra.

I had more questions than answers. How can I tell the difference between a past life and the recollection of the previous life of a nearby spirit? The truth is that many people can write about these things, and one might find useful advice from the experience of another, but at the end, there are no real answers. That is why it's called the Unknown . I prayed and waited for a revelation that could answer my doubts. Although I can't be one hundred percent, I had an experience that gave me another option that had never surfaced before.

One night, as I meditated in full relaxation searching for an answer, I stumbled upon a Spiritual Master who invited me to experience my first astral projection. He literally pulled my soul out of the body while I rested in bed, unable to move, with my eyes still wide open. It was the most exhilarating experience I have ever had. What interested me the most was not the places I visited that night or the sense of total freedom that I became aware of once my soul was boundless. What came as a revelation was the way my soul detached from the body. Instead of coming out at once, my soul broke down into dozens of layers. Each one took part of myself from the body form to the astral plane. At first, the layers were detaching slowly; the more confident I became, the faster the procedure took place. My last layers launched themselves with such speed that I felt as if I had jolted out of bed. It wasn't until I was completely outside that I gained control over my astral body. Needless to say, I was overjoyed.

I often asked myself why some spirits decide to stay while others reincarnated. After my past life regression, the subject became more perplexing. It had become personal. As I experienced the detachment of the layers, I realized that we are not one single soul, but layers and layers of an energy that in the astral plane is not confined by space or time. And although, the whole idea of time not being linear seems out of my grasp, I wonder if our present life represents but a single layer of who we really are.

Think about your soul as having an entire wardrobe and each layer of your soul as a single piece of clothing that is organized in hangers. Because we think of time as being linear, it is assumed that we would only wear one outfit at a time. What you wore yesterday is different than what you wear today and what you will wear tomorrow. But once you get rid of that linear perception of time, then it is understood that you are wearing all of those clothes at the same time, although you are not aware of it.

Our layers carry a smaller degree of subconsciousness that belongs to the whole (the soul in its entirety) and is able to have an independent experience of its own. In other words, it will be able to reincarnate in a separate body. However, there will be times where the layers reconnect with each other and those are the moments where we can perceive what we consider the past or the future. When we communicate with a Spirit Guide who seems inseparable, we are really connecting layers of a wholeness that are living parallel lives. This connection is extremely beneficial since the soul in its wholeness can be extremely wise and powerful. The spirit that you are communicating with is the embodiment of that other fraction of your whole soul. Since it lives in what we perceive as another time and place, we might think of it as an entity who has no immediate association with us. Think about it - In what we consider another time and place, someone sees you as their Spirit Guide.

Your own layer that houses itself in your current body is also formed by smaller layers that carry within them a percentage of your subconsciousness. And this concept can also be modified into a bigger scale. Humanity is the wholeness and the layers are spread among the world in all of creation without the confinements of time and place.

If my ideas are in fact accurate, then it is possible to feel the presence and communicate with a loved one that has passed even after its soul has reincarnated. It is also possible to connect with the souls of those that have not reincarnated in your present time. A father is able to love his children ten years before they are born. Is this wishful thinking? Could it be what so many people consider as visualization - using the subconscious mind to bring positive things into our life? There are no concrete answers, but everyone has to search for their own personal truth.
